Long time no post! I've just returned from a restful weeklong vacation in Taiwan. The sunny wilderness of Tai Tung is rather perfect, notwithstanding the intermittent wifi. Now that I'm back, I want to share with you all a preview of the Fall/Winter fashions from Electric Sekki. Electric Sekki is a fashion distributor that supplies to many stores in Asia, notably Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. They represent brands such as Sass and Bide, Richard Nicoll, Ksubi, Stylestalker, Hussein Chalayan, Superga and House of Holland amongst others. They were kind enough to invite me to their press preview in June to take a look at what's in store for the colder months of the year.
This season, designers looked to impact with simplicity. Hussein Chalayan's garments were muted in color, yet were impeccably tailored and draped beautifully on the body. The brand Twenty8Twelve color blocked different autumn hues of leather to create an elegant yet pragmatic leather jacket. Designers Heidi and Sarah utilized a monochrome palette to work their embellished aesthetic.
Ultimately, there is an air of glamor in the ready-to-wear. Ksubi reworked the Hollywood cat-eye silhouette in a futuristic manner in their eyewear. As the original creator of the skinny jean, this season Ksubi pioneered to transpose denim qualities to other garments such as dresses. What manifested were garments that appeared denim-esque with the indigo wash, yet retained a weightless and flowing quality. Italian sneaker brand Superga also managed to up the sophistication in their shoes, with a collaboration with British designer Giles Deacon. The designer, best known for his quirky yet glamorous aesthetic, gave the iconic Superga shoe a lux snakeskin finish, as well as a punky edge with studs at the heels. I've never been a sneaker girl myself, but I just might take a run in these sophisticated shoes.
...And in this season, print continues to endure. One Teaspoon created gorgeous denim with ornate baroque prints - obviously inspired by Balmain. Stylestalker, a young and hip brand favored by many fashioned bloggers, crafted a bomber jacket with a galaxy-like print. Athlete meets Spaceman. I like it.
Of course, my favorite collection this season was undoubtedly Sass and Bide. I've always been a fan of their ethnic and embellished sensibility, but more so this season when they decided to work their designs in my two favorite non-colors, black and white. The meticulous attention to detail is evident in each of their pieces: the beading is overwhelming in the most literal sense - it weighs a ton! I'll be happily rocking Sass and Bide...in an outfit post that is coming soon to the blog!
